An ambulance allegedly being used to transport 15 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth an estimated ₹45 crore was intercepted in Seling, Mizoram, on Thursday, officials said.
The Suzuki Eeco ambulance was stopped near Sakei Bangla Restaurant in Seling, Aizawl district, during a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Aizawl, based on specific intelligence inputs.
Three people were apprehended during the operation. According to the Assam Rifles, one of those arrested, a woman, was allegedly posing as a patient inside the ambulance in an attempt to avoid suspicion while the narcotics were being transported.
The 15 kg consignment of methamphetamine tablets, along with the ambulance and other incriminating materials, was seized during the operation.
The apprehended individuals and the seized items were handed over to the DRI, Aizawl, for further investigation and legal proceedings under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The operation was carried out on August 6 based on intelligence jointly developed by the DRI, Aizawl, and the Assam Rifles.
