Aizawl: A 15-year-old girl, who had been reported missing since the night of August 3, was found dead behind Mualthuam ‘N’ Middle School on Wednesday morning, prompting Mizoram’s apex women’s body and leading student organisation to demand a thorough investigation and strict action against those responsible.
The deceased has been identified as H. Ramdinpuii, a Class 10 student and daughter of H. Lalawmpuia of Mualthuam ‘N’. According to statements issued by the organisations, her body was discovered at around 10 am on August 5 behind Mualthuam ‘N’ Middle School.
Expressing deep shock over the incident, the Mizo Hmeichhe Insuihkhawm Pawl (MHIP) said it was deeply saddened by the death of the teenager, who had been missing since the night of August 3. The organisation called for an immediate and thorough investigation to establish the exact cause of her death and demanded that anyone found responsible be brought to justice and given appropriate punishment.
MHIP also expressed concern over what it described as the recurring incidents of violence against young girls, saying such cases are disturbing and difficult to comprehend. The organisation conveyed its condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that they would find strength and comfort during this difficult time. It said it would continue to closely monitor the case and pursue the matter until justice is served.
The Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP) also condemned the incident, describing the death of the Class 10 student as tragic and heartbreaking.
In a statement, the student body said Ramdinpuii was a well-liked student with a bright future who was not known to have caused harm to anyone. It said the organisation believes she was a victim of foul play and asserted that it would not allow the incident to be overlooked.
MZP called on law enforcement authorities to conduct a meticulous investigation, identify those responsible and ensure that they receive the maximum punishment permissible under the law. The organisation also expressed its condolences to the bereaved family and said it shares in their grief.
