Aizawl: Protests against the alleged NEET (UG) 2026 question paper leak entered their second day in Mizoram on Wednesday, with demonstrations held across the state’s districts under the banner of the Mizo Zirlai Pawl (MZP), Mizoram’s apex student body.
The protests followed the July 22 solidarity demonstrations that were organised by a group of concerned youth with no affiliation to any political party or organisation. Wednesday’s protests, however, were coordinated by the MZP across district headquarters, including programmes organised by the MZP headquarters, Lunglei and Serchhip units.
At the gatherings, the MZP adopted six resolutions expressing its stand on the controversy surrounding the NEET (UG) 2026 examination.
The student body strongly condemned the alleged question paper leak and urged the Central Government to take immediate and stringent measures to ensure that such incidents do not recur.
It also expressed condolences to the families of students who lost their lives in connection with the controversy and demanded that the government provide adequate compensation to the affected families.
Calling for reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA), the MZP said the examination system should be made more transparent, fair and secure.
The organisation also condemned the use of force by police against peaceful protesters, stating that such actions have no place in a democratic country and should not be repeated.
The MZP further criticised the detention of protest leader Sonam Wangchuk at Safdarjung Hospital and demanded his immediate and unconditional release.
In its final resolution, the student body resolved that Mizo students and youth would continue to work together in unity to safeguard the interests, safety and welfare of Mizo students.
The statewide demonstrations marked a continuation of growing solidarity in Mizoram with student protests taking place in Delhi over the alleged examination irregularities and the treatment of protesters. Wednesday’s programmes were held peacefully across the state.
