Dibrugarh: In a joint operation, security forces apprehended three cadres of the banned ULFA-I in Nagaland’s Mon district on Friday night.

The three cadres have been identified as self-styled Lieutenant Gajendra Asom (35) from Tezpur in Assam, self-styled Lance Corporal Brojen Asom (27) from Jorhat district, and self-styled Sergeant Puhor Asom (26) from Golaghat district.

According to police sources, the cadres were active in the Phomching area and were moving towards Shangnyu village when they were nabbed.

“Gajendra Asom had joined the outfit in 2011, while Brojen Asom and Puhor Asom joined in 2022 and 2019 respectively. They were active ULFA-I cadres involved in several extortion-related activities,” said a police official.

In another operation, an active NSCN(IM) cadre surrendered before the Khonsa Battalion of Assam Rifles in the general area of Sanliam in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh on Saturday.

The cadre has been identified as SS Lieutenant Thinwang Deosa (60), of Sanliam village under Lazu circle of Tirap district.

He surrendered before Tirap Police and the 44th Assam Rifles at the SP’s office in Khonsa.

He surrendered along with one 7.65 mm pistol (made in the US), one magazine, and seven live rounds of 7.65 mm ammunition.

Officials said the operation was based on intelligence inputs and sustained negotiation efforts that led to a peaceful surrender.
