Aizawl: Dr Eric Zomawia, former Mission Director of the National Health Mission, Government of Mizoram, has been awarded the “Excellence in Public Health Leadership & Healthcare Systems Strengthening Award” by the IHW Council at the 7th Cancer Summit & Awards 2026, held on World Cancer Day 2026 at Pride Plaza, New Delhi.
Receiving the accolade, Dr Zomawia said he was “extremely honoured to have received the Excellence in Public Health Leadership & Healthcare Systems Strengthening Award from IHW Council at the 7th Cancer Summit & Awards on the occasion of World Cancer Day 2026, at Pride Plaza, New Delhi.”
Officials noted that the recognition highlights Dr Zomawia’s key role in building and advancing Mizoram’s Population Based Cancer Registry (PBCR), which was established in 2003. The registry has been central to shaping evidence-led cancer surveillance, prevention, and policy at both state and national levels, aligning with broader efforts to strengthen public health systems and cancer care frameworks.
