Saitual Police, in a joint operation with 34 Assam Rifles, seized 868 grams of suspected heroin worth approximately ₹1.74 crore from a vehicle near Keifang in Mizoram on Thursday, police said.
The seizure was made by a special team of Saitual Police Station during an operation on the outskirts of Keifang on August 13. The suspected heroin was packed in 73 soap cases and was recovered from an Ashok Leyland vehicle bearing registration number NL-06-AA-3077.
The driver and handyman of the vehicle, identified as Monwar Singh Barbhuiya and Abdul Kayum Munna, both from Cachar district of Assam, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
Saitual Police Station registered Case No. 90/2026 under Sections 21(c), 25 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway.
The seizure was the latest in a series of drug recoveries reported in Saitual district in recent days.
On August 10, a Saitual Police special team seized 292 grams of suspected heroin, packed in 25 soap cases and valued at approximately ₹58.4 lakh, during an operation at Keifang.
Police identified the person from whom the drugs were allegedly recovered as Vungngailun, a resident of Henglep in Manipur. He was travelling as a passenger in a vehicle coming from Manipur towards Aizawl when he was intercepted, police said.
A case was registered at Saitual Police Station under Section 21(c) of the NDPS Act.
In a separate operation on August 9, Ngopa Police Station and 34 Assam Rifles, COB Kawlbem, seized 18.52 kg of suspected ganja during random checking at Tuisa Road in Kawlbem village.
The suspected cannabis, valued at approximately ₹9.26 lakh, was allegedly recovered from Samuel Lalruatpuia, a resident of Kawlbem in Saitual district.
Ngopa Police Station registered Case No. 10/2026 under Sections 20(b)(ii)(B) and 25 of the NDPS Act in connection with the seizure.
