Imphal: Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah met with Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari in New Delhi on Wednesday. During the meeting, the Ukhrul MLA raised concerns about ongoing issues with the poor and delayed construction of National Highway 202 and 102A. These highways are a critical lifeline for the districts of Ukhrul, Senapati and Kamjong.
During the meeting, MLA Ram Muivah sought the Union Minister’s urgent intervention, emphasising that residents of these districts are enduring severe hardships due to poor road connectivity. He submitted a detailed representation to the minister, highlighting the terrible condition of the two national highways and the prolonged delays affecting several critical stretches.
According to MLA Muivah, the Union Minister expressed concern over the delay in handing over land to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), particularly for the proposed Ukhrul Bypass and the Shangshak-Tengnoupal sectors. The meeting also highlighted delays in the project due to High Court interventions regarding the construction of the Lower Hungpung to Choithar sector on NH-202 and the Shangshak to Tengnoupal sector of NH-102A, resulting in prolonged suffering for the people.
After a detailed meeting, Union Minister Gadkari directed the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) Secretary to prioritise NH 202 and 102A and take necessary steps to address the issues impeding their progress. He also advised MoRTH Director Narendra Sharma to visit Ukhrul at the earliest for an on-the-spot assessment and to submit a report for remedial action.
