Aizawl: Mizoram’s much-anticipated Winter Festival kicked off at Lammual, drawing large crowds as people of all ages gathered to celebrate one of the state’s most popular annual events.
Considered the most awaited time of the year in Mizoram, the festival sees young and old coming together for afternoon and night concerts, visiting food and craft stalls, and spending leisure time with family and friends, while children play across the festival grounds, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The festival, which will run until December 23, was inaugurated after stalls were opened to the public. Speaking at the opening, Tourism Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar said the event provides a joyful and wholesome space for Mizo families and youth, while also promoting tourism and local entrepreneurship.
The Winter Festival also serves as a platform for local producers and entrepreneurs to showcase and sell indigenous food, handmade products, and locally made goods, while highlighting Mizoram’s natural beauty to visitors from other states and beyond.

The celebrations will culminate in a grand Christmas Parade on December 23, beginning from Chanmari Kawn and concluding at Lammual, featuring musicians, public figures, and residents in Christmas costumes, followed by a Christmas carol programme.
A New Year’s Eve programme will also be held on December 31 at Sakawrhmuituai Tlang, where the public can gather to witness the last sunset of the year, accompanied by performances by various artistes. The Mizoram Tourism Calendar for 2026 was also released during the festival.
