Nagaland: Dimapur Police arrest third accused in POCSO case

Kohima: Dimapur Police have arrested a third accused in connection with the Women Police Station Case No. 003/26 registered under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

According to a statement issued by Dy Commissioner of Police (Crime)-cum-PRO Khekali Y. Sema, the third accused, Akangkokba Ao (68), a resident of Residency Colony, Dimapur, was arrested on June 7, 2026, in connection with the case.

The case came under public scrutiny after allegations surfaced that a minor girl was subjected to sexual abuse over an extended period. The matter was subsequently reported to Childline, following which a case was registered and an investigation launched.

Earlier, the prime accused, Watimeren Jamir alias Wati (43), had sought anticipatory bail. However, the court later cancelled the bail, after which police arrested him and secured his remand to police custody for further investigation.

As the probe progressed, police also arrested a second accused, Tsuktimongba Ao (37).

All three accused are being investigated under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 6 of the POCSO Act. Police said the investigation is ongoing and further details will be released as the case progresses.

The identities of the survivor and her family have been withheld in accordance with legal provisions protecting minors involved in sexual offence cases.
