Aizawl: The Ministry of Education, Government of India, recently released the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2025 rankings for universities and colleges across the country. Pachhunga University College (PUC) secured the 49th position in the college category, while Mizoram University was ranked 89th among universities.
The results were announced at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, by Union Minister for Education, Dharmendra Pradhan. Minister of State for Education, Jayant Chaudhary, was also present. Representatives from Mizoram, including PUC Principal Prof. H. Lalthanzara and Mizoram University Registrar Prof. Lalnundanga, attended the event.
Instituted by the Ministry of Education in 2015, the NIRF evaluates higher education institutions on parameters including teaching, learning, research, graduation outcomes, outreach, inclusivity, and perception. The ranking system has completed ten years of assessing academic excellence in India.
Pachhunga University College has consistently featured among the top colleges in India. In 2022, it was ranked 45th, in 2023 it rose to 34th, and in 2024 it held the 35th spot. This year, it stands at 49th among over 4,000 colleges across India, marking its steady presence in the national academic landscape. Among top-ranked colleges in 2025, Hindu College secured the first position, while Miranda House and Hans Raj College were ranked second and third, respectively.
For 2023-24, PUC had a total of 2,761 undergraduate students, including 12 international students, and 88 postgraduate students. The college offers 23 departments across Arts, Science, Commerce, and Management streams, serving as a prominent centre of higher learning in Mizoram.
