Aizawl: The National Trade Union of Mizoram (NTUM) has expressed serious concern over the non-payment of salaries to Wildlife Guards under the Environment, Forest & Climate Change Department, posted in various Sanctuaries and National Parks across the state.
According to the NTUM, the guards have not received their wages from April to August 2025, leaving them in financial distress despite performing essential duties in safeguarding Mizoram’s wildlife and forest reserves.
In a statement issued on Monday, the union said that while they appreciated the assurance made by the Environment Minister during the Mizoram Assembly Budget Session in March 2025, where he promised that Wildlife Guards would receive regular payments, the reality on the ground remains unchanged.
“Despite the Minister’s public assurance in the Assembly, these frontline forest personnel continue to be neglected. It is deeply disappointing that those protecting our natural heritage are left unpaid for months,” the NTUM stated.
The NTUM urged the Mizoram government to take swift and necessary action to resolve the issue and ensure that Wildlife Guards are paid their pending salaries immediately, and that regular payments are maintained going forward.
