Aizawl: Home Minister K. Sapdanga officially launched the campaign “Operation Against Trafficking and Use of Drugs and Narcotics in Mizoram.” The launch event was attended by Excise & Narcotics Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar, the Home Department Secretary, IGP (Law & Order), Aizawl DC and SP, senior officials from the Excise & Narcotics Department and Police, as well as leaders from the Central YMA.
Highlighting the growing crisis, the Home Minister emphasised that the increasing spread of drugs in Mizoram has become a serious challenge, causing widespread harm to society. In response, the Government of Mizoram, in collaboration with CYMA, has resolved to take strong, coordinated action through this comprehensive campaign.
The campaign, named Ruihhlo Dona Beihpui, will run from September to December 2025, and aims to tackle both drug trafficking and usage across the state. It is designed to be a sustained and united effort involving government departments, law enforcement, and community organizations.
Earlier, on August 7, 2025, a joint meeting was held between the Home Department, Excise & Narcotics Department, Police, SIB, and CYMA leaders. It was identified that drugs primarily enter Mizoram through the Myanmar border, with 22 key entry points flagged as high-risk. The meeting concluded with the urgent need for a full-fledged campaign to counter this threat.
Between August 25–29, the IGP (Law & Order) and CYMA teams conducted awareness drives in several villages across Champhai District. These campaigns aimed to mobilise local support and educate communities near the entry points.
Recognising the challenge of drugs re-entering Mizoram through neighboring states, the government has prioritised strengthening border vigilance. On August 30, the Home Minister, accompanied by senior officials and CYMA leaders, visited Bairabi, Vairengte, and other key areas in Kolasib District. They held meetings with local leaders to devise detailed surveillance and prevention strategies.
To ensure the campaign’s success, the government has committed to allocating adequate funding and manpower. A special 30-member police squad, trained specifically for anti-narcotics operations, has been formed under Mizoram Police. This team will work in close coordination with community leaders and YMA members to ensure rigorous enforcement and community engagement.
