Aizawl: Mizoram is witnessing steady and robust economic growth, with significant developments across sectors and impressive levels of investment, according to a newly released study titled “Investment, Growth & Development in Progressive Mizoram”, conducted by the MSME Export Promotion Council.
The study, unveiled today by council chairman D.S. Rawat, reveals that between 2021-22 and 2024-25, Mizoram attracted fresh investments worth ₹16,720 crore in new projects. These figures, sourced from the Centre for Monitoring of Indian Economy (CMIE), show year-wise investments of ₹2,587 crore in 2021-22, ₹126 crore in 2022-23, ₹41 crore in 2023-24, and ₹1,397 crore in 2024-25.
These projects are estimated to have created direct employment opportunities for 30,000 to 35,000 people, along with around 20,000 indirect jobs. Additionally, projects worth ₹1,918 crore have already been completed during this period, while ongoing projects under various stages of implementation are valued at ₹1,21,385 crore. Once completed, these are expected to generate employment for over 50,000 people.
The services sector remains a key driver of the state’s economy, contributing between 45–46% of the Gross State Value Added (GSVA). The industry sector has also shown improvement, with its share in GSVA rising from 25% to 34%, while the primary sector—including agriculture and allied activities—declined from 25% to approximately 20%.
Chairman D.S. Rawat noted that Mizoram’s overall economic growth is consistent, ranging between 13–15%, and the state is increasingly becoming attractive for investment and development initiatives.
The study highlights the MSME sector as a cornerstone of inclusive economic growth in Mizoram. With growing government support, better infrastructure, use of digital financial tools, and focus on value addition, the MSME ecosystem is expected to experience a significant surge. The report also stressed the importance of connecting Mizoram’s MSMEs with global markets, R&D institutions, and international delegations to foster deeper economic partnerships.
The report also underlined the untapped potential of the tourism sector in the state. To fully harness its capabilities, the study recommends that Mizoram promote eco-adventure tourism, wildlife safaris, trekking circuits, and highlight its unique festival tourism. It also encourages investment in village tourism, infrastructure enhancement, and the development of cross-border tourism to boost regional engagement and visitor inflow.
