Aizawl: Mizoram Police, in a series of coordinated operations across the state, have seized narcotics worth over ₹350 crore between July 31 and August 9. The operations, carried out in collaboration with central security forces, netted large quantities of methamphetamine and heroin from multiple districts.
According to the police, the latest incident occurred on August 9, when a joint team from the Special Narcotics Police Station (CID Crime) and the 225 Battalion CRPF stopped a Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 (AS-10D-9577) at Seling and Bungbangla in Aizawl district. The search yielded 3.930 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at approximately ₹51.09 lakh. Three suspects, Sahab Uddin (41) of Karimganj, Assam; Emanuel Remnalalliana (25) and Lalbiaksiama (23), both from Khawzawl district, were arrested on the spot.
On August 6, Champhai Police intercepted a vehicle at Khankawn Checkgate and recovered 1.053 kg of heroin. Two days earlier, on August 4, Champhai Police and Assam Rifles seized 2.481 kg of heroin from a location near the Indo-Myanmar border, arresting two men from Myanmar in connection with the haul. On August 3, another Champhai Police team seized 12.3 kg of methamphetamine tablets valued at several crores.
The largest haul of the nine-day operation was made on July 31, when police in Aizawl recovered 50 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth over ₹300 crore. The consignment, concealed in a truck, is believed to have been bound for other states in India.
Police said the coordinated actions were part of their “relentless and untiring drive” to combat the trafficking of narcotics into and through Mizoram. They expressed concern over the increasing scale of drug smuggling and said investigations are ongoing to track the origins of the contraband and identify others involved in the networks.
