Aizawl: A joint operation by Assam Rifles and the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department led to the seizure of heroin valued at over ₹81.81 lakh and the arrest of four individuals in Lunglei district early Wednesday morning.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a patrol team from Assam Rifles’ Lunglei unit, along with officials from the Excise and Narcotics Department, launched an operation around 1:30 am and set up a check post on the New Dawn to Hnahthial road. At approximately 6:30 am, three individuals were intercepted at the post. A thorough search led to the recovery of 109.08 grams of Heroin No. 4, which authorities believe was intended for distribution in Lunglei town.
Four people were taken into custody in connection with the drug haul: F. Lallianzuali, 40, daughter of Vanlalchhunga; Malsawmtluanga, 33, son of Lalhmingmawia; Lalhmunsiami, 43, daughter of Dohranga; and Lalmuansanga, 25, daughter of Lalramliana.
The arrested individuals and the seized narcotics have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Lunglei for further investigation and legal proceedings. Authorities say this seizure highlights the ongoing challenges posed by drug trafficking networks operating in the region.
