Aizawl: The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Mizoram branch, met with the Home Minister in his office on Monday to discuss the recent assault on two doctors from Synod Hospital, Aizawl.
The attack, which took place on the night of September 21-22, 2024, at Durtlang Leitan, left two doctors and their friend brutally injured. The Home Minister assured the IMA officials that the government is taking the case seriously and has decided to initiate a magisterial inquiry into the matter.
According to a report by Zalen, the Home Minister expressed the government’s commitment to ensuring justice for the victims. “We have decided to proceed with a magisterial inquiry,” he stated, reassuring the IMA that no stone would be left unturned in investigating the assault.
The victims, Dr. Laldinliana Sailo of Zemabawk North, Dr. Rinngheta Renthlei of Durtlang, and their friend Lalthlamuana, were violently attacked by a group of young men following an alleged misunderstanding. The three were dragged from their vehicle and assaulted, sparking widespread public outrage.
In response, police acted swiftly, arresting six suspects, including police constable Sailianpuia Sailo, who was subsequently suspended from duty. However, all six suspects were released on bail.
The situation escalated when another police constable, Lalruatdika, allegedly intimidated the victims while collecting their medico-legal case (MLC) injury report at Synod Hospital. According to hospital authorities and the Durtlang Branch of the Young Mizo Association (YMA), Lalruatdika threatened the victims, warning that “worse things could happen” if they did not forgive his colleague involved in the assault, referring to him as “a dangerous man.”

The alleged threat caused widespread condemnation, with both the Synod Hospital Doctors and the YMA calling for immediate action against Constable Lalruatdika. They insisted that police intimidation must not obstruct justice, demanding strict accountability for those involved in the attack.
Both the IMA and Synod Hospital officials had advocated for a magisterial inquiry to ensure that the perpetrators are held accountable for their actions.
