Aizawl: A renowned Mizo gospel singer, Bethsy Lalrinsangi, and her husband, BCM-recognized evangelist C. Lalhriatpuia, are facing legal trouble in Assam after an FIR was filed against them for alleged forced conversion activities. The couple held a gospel meeting at Mount Olive School in Debitola, Assam, where prayers were reportedly conducted for children.
According to sources, the FIR was filed by certain individuals following the religious activities during the event. Local reports suggest that those who lodged the complaint are believed to be affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a right-wing Hindu nationalist organization.
Earlier this week, the couple were asked to appear in the Kokrajhar District Court in connection with the case, which has been labelled as one of ‘Child Conversion.’ The court hearing saw the couple seeking interim bail, but their request was denied.
Speaking to EastMojo, a senior church official expressed uncertainty about the specifics of the case. “We are yet to receive the official documents and are not sure of the organization or individual behind the FIR,” he said, signaling that the church is still gathering information regarding the charges.
