Aizawl: The Mizoram State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) convened a meeting on Monday chaired by Chief Minister Lalduhoma, at the CM Conference Hall. The meeting focused on the aftermath of Cyclone Remal and various ongoing disaster management efforts in the state.
Chairman Lalduhoma informed the attendees that the Inter-Ministerial Central Team has submitted its report on the damages caused by Cyclone Remal. He mentioned that the report is currently under consideration by the Finance Ministry and expressed optimism about receiving substantial assistance.
The meeting reviewed SDMA’s financial status and the effective utilization of funds. It was highlighted that there are 6 Seismic Observatories in Mizoram to monitor earthquake activities.
According to official reports from March to May this year, there were reports of 5,938 damaged buildings due to land instability, and 42 fatalities related to disasters were recorded.

The SDMA also discussed various disaster preparedness measures, including purchasing new equipment for disaster response and establishing a study team to investigate the causes of frequent landslides and floods.
Plans to provide housing for 41 families affected by natural disasters in Hlimen and Melthuma were also outlined, emphasizing the importance of continuous monitoring and preparedness in vulnerable areas.
Furthermore, the meeting addressed the severe impact of African Swine Fever on local communities. The need for a comprehensive and effective support system was discussed to mitigate the outbreak’s effects.
