Shillong: The Meghalaya government has released the full financial package under the One-Time Special Industrial Closure Scheme for employees of the Meghalaya Cement Corporation Limited (MCCL), with the final instalment now in the process of being disbursed, MLA Gavin Mylliem said.
Speaking on the matter, Mylliem said the state government had approved a special closure package worth Rs 90.5 crore in January 2025 to facilitate the settlement of dues for MCCL employees. The amount was to be released in three instalments following a 40:30:30 payment pattern over three financial years beginning from 2024-25.
According to the MLA, the first instalment of Rs 36 crore, accounting for 40 per cent of the total package, was released in March 2025. This was followed by the second instalment of Rs 27 crore (30 per cent) in July 2025.
He said the third and final instalment of Rs 27 crore, representing the remaining 30 per cent of the package, was received by the government in June 2026 and is currently in the process of being released to the employees.
Mylliem noted that with the release of all three instalments, the government has completed the disbursement of the closure package within a relatively short span of two financial years, despite the original plan extending over three financial years.

Apart from employee-related dues, the MLA also informed that long-pending payments owed to suppliers of the state-owned cement corporation have been cleared over the past few months, bringing relief to vendors whose bills had remained unpaid for several years.
He said the settlement of both employee compensation and supplier dues marks a significant step in concluding the financial liabilities associated with the closure of MCCL.
