Shillong: In a major breakthrough against drug trafficking, Meghalaya Police arrested Aisha Khatoon, popularly known as ‘Pahari,’ one of the biggest female drug suppliers in Shillong, on Wednesday.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police (SP) Sylvester Nongtnger informed that the arrest followed a joint operation led by the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of East Khasi Hills, Shillong, in collaboration with Lumdiengjri Police Station and Jhalupara Outpost.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operation took place in the Jhalupara area, leading to the apprehension of ‘Pahari,’ a resident of Lower Paltan Bazar, Shillong.
The 50-year-old has a long history of drug-related activities, with three pending cases against her. This is her fourth arrest, reflecting her continued involvement in drug trafficking despite previous charges.
During the operation, authorities recovered and seized 73 vials containing suspected heroin, weighing 9.72 grams, along with four mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs 27,410.
A criminal case has been registered under Lumdiengjri PS Case No. 103/24 under sections 21(b) and 27A of the NDPS Act, and further investigation is underway.
SP Nongtnger highlighted the importance of this arrest, stating, “This successful operation highlights the unwavering commitment of Meghalaya Police in its efforts to combat and eradicate drug trafficking within the State”.
