Tura: Following the success of the Shillong IT Park, construction on a new IT park on the outskirts of Tura is well underway, with major groundwork already completed by Badri Rai & Company (BRC). The project, sanctioned under the PM – DevINE scheme by the Ministry of DoNER, is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 126 crore.
The IT park, which spans over 7 acres, aims to boost employment and opportunities in the region, particularly for those with an interest in the IT sector. The project was approved in January 2024, with a 36-month timeline for completion. However, BRC has set an ambitious target to finish the project by December 2025—an entire year ahead of schedule.
“We started the foundation work in earnest about two months ago, and more than 100 personnel are currently engaged at the site,” said Vikash Lahon, the project manager for BRC. “At present, about 90% of the excavation work has been completed, and 50% of the RCC columns are in place. We’re aiming to finish both by the end of this month.”
Lahon emphasised the focus on local employment, stating that 60% of the workforce consists of locals. As work progresses, the number of employees is expected to increase significantly.
The project, which will consist of four floors and over 1 lakh sq ft of space, is set against the scenic backdrop of the Durama Range, with the upcoming Tura Medical College located nearby. Once completed, the Tura IT Park is expected to generate employment for at least 4,000 people.
“This IT park is larger than the first phase of the Shillong IT Park, which has already employed around 3,000 people and generates about Rs 35 lakh in monthly rent,” said a company representative. “With Tura IT Park, we expect similar, if not greater, benefits for the local economy.”
The official handover date is December 2026, but BRC remains confident in completing the project by December 2025, with work progressing smoothly.
