Tura: In response to growing opposition regarding the proposed review of the existing Meghalaya Reservation Policy, the Tura Garo Senior Citizens Forum (TGSCF) has submitted a letter expressing its strong opposition to the Secretary of the Expert Committee, L K Diengdoh.
The TGSCF emphasised its stance based on the historical, sociological, and economic backwardness of the Garos.
“The existing reservation policy of 40% each for Khasi/Jaintia and Garos was established through an agreement among leaders who fought for statehood, aiming to maintain unity and integrity among the two major tribes of Meghalaya,” stated the forum.

The letter highlighted that the state reservation policy was formulated by the founding and visionary leaders who understood the socio-cultural and economic landscape of the state.
They pointed out that the goal of the leaders was to uplift marginalised communities within Meghalaya. The forum opposed any alterations or changes to the current reservation policy.
