Shillong: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister and NPP State President Prestone Tynsong has issued a challenge to anyone alleging corruption against him or the departments he oversees, daring them to file an FIR if they have evidence.
This statement came in response to VPP president Ardent Basaiawmoit’s vow to elevate the corruption issue to the national level and his criticism of the Central Government for not sending the CBI and ED to investigate corruption cases in Meghalaya.
Welcoming any CBI or ED inquiry, Tynsong stated, “Some people think I, Conrad, Sniawbhalang, and other ministers are corrupt. But I am here to serve the interest of the state. I have my own salary; I don’t live with corruption.”
He encouraged people to file FIRs and approach the courts if there are instances of corruption in any departments under his purview. “The way they say it, it’s as if CBI and ED are in their pockets,” Tynsong added.
Addressing the end of the 46-year-old legacy of the Purno Sangma family in Tura, Tynsong remarked that in politics, there is no property belonging to any family or individual.

He also responded to the VPP’s demand for all MDA leaders to step down gracefully following their significant defeat, calling it an immature and irrelevant statement. He said that since Independence, no government has stepped down after losing an election.
Tynsong emphasised the need for the party to accept defeat but also to diagnose, examine, and review its style of functioning. He assured that the party would soon hold a review meeting to identify the loopholes that led to the NPP’s downfall in the Lok Sabha elections.
