Shillong: In a gruesome discovery, the Police in Shillong on Friday found dismembered body parts that point to a murder most horrid.
A skull, believed to be of a human, was found near a drain on Bivar Road in the heart of Shillong not too far away from official residences of high-ranking government officials and Raj Bhavan.
The skull was discovered on May 22. After a search by police, decomposed lower limbs were found inside the drain the following day and part of the upper torso on May 24.
Due to the heavy rain the state capital has been experiencing in recent days, the remains may have been washed down to Bivar Road from another part of town.
The recovered body parts have been sent to NEIGRIHMS for medical examination. Based on clothing found with the remains, it is suspected that the victim was male, East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Rituraj Ravi said.
A case has been registered at Sadar Police Station under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which deals with murder. Efforts are ongoing to identify the victim and nab the perpetrator(s).
