Tura: Social activist Nilberth Ch Marak, hailing from Williamnagar in East Garo Hills, Meghalaya, has submitted a fresh complaint to the Chief Election Commission (CEC) concerning the illicit exportation of sugar to Bangladesh via overloaded trucks.
Marak alleged that this practice violates both a Supreme Court order and the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The complaint follows a recent incident where a major bridge in Joshipara, South Garo Hills, collapsed under the weight of two overloaded trucks attempting to cross it on Tuesday.
Nilberth’s complaint targets the Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police of North, West, and South Garo Hills districts, as well as customs officials in Gasupara, South Garo Hills.
Previously, Nilberth had filed a complaint against the then North Garo Hills SP, Bruno A Sangma, which led to his immediate transfer and the appointment of Abraham T Sangma in his place.

“Your office heeded my request and immediately posted in his place current SP Abraham T Sangma. However, there has been no checks on these overloaded and they continued to ply freely leading to the major bridge at Joshipara collapsing under their weight,” Nilberth said in the complaint.
Highlighting that the collapsed bridge is causing inconvenience not just to local residents but also to state government employees stationed at Baghmara, as well as polling personnel deployed across various polling stations in South Garo Hills, Nilberth urged for swift and stringent action against all the mentioned officials.
