Agartala: Patal Kanya Jamatia, recently expelled from her position as Vice President of the Tripura BJP, launched a fierce critique of the state party leadership on Tuesday, accusing some members of promoting “Bangladeshi sentiment.”
Speaking to media personnel at MBB Airport in Agartala after returning from a trip to Delhi, where she reportedly met with the BJP high command, Jamatia issued a stark warning: “If corrective measures are not taken promptly, the Bharatiya Janata Party in Tripura risks becoming the ‘Bangladeshi Janata Party.’”
Jamatia emphasized her lack of interest in positions, power, or wealth, citing her history of running an independent organization before formally joining the BJP. “I am fighting three cases in the Supreme Court on critical issues like the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC),” she said.
Taking an apparent dig at BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee, Jamatia recounted her tenure as Chairperson of the Tripura Rehabilitation Corporation Limited. “For 20 months, I served without receiving a single rupee as an honorarium. Under the state president’s instructions, employees of my corporation threatened to go on strike. Files I forwarded to the Chief Minister for approval were ignored. Instead of support, I faced political humiliation from the state BJP leadership, which is deeply distressing,” she alleged.
Jamatia expressed her concern that the state unit was being dominated by leaders who she claims are sympathetic to Bangladeshi interests. “A true BJP leader speaks against illegal intrusions and Bangladeshi nationals. In Jharkhand, the BJP’s campaign focuses on opposing Bangladeshi intruders. Assam’s Chief Minister staunchly criticizes illegal migration from Bangladesh, but the silence of Tripura’s Chief Minister on this issue is sending a completely different message,” she remarked.
She further warned, “I have informed the BJP central leadership that the party in Tripura will collapse because of the actions of a handful of people.”
