Imphal: The United Naga Council (UNC) has strongly condemned the bomb attack carried out by unknown miscreants at the residence of Minister Khashim Vashum in Ukhrul district headquarters.
In a statement, the UNC, the apex Naga body in Manipur, expressed shock over the heinous act of detonating an explosive device at the residence of Khashim Vashum, Minister of Transport, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Government of Manipur, on September 14, 2024, around 8:30 pm.
“The Council in no uncertain terms condemns such abominable acts of dehumanization and attempts to disrupt the peaceful atmosphere in the region. Intimidation or threat perception to achieve one’s evil desire is not at all a means to solve the problem,” the statement said.
The UNC further stated that this cowardly act, targeting the life and property of an elected representative, is not just an assault on his family but a challenge to all peace-loving citizens who live under the ‘rule of law.’
The Naga apex body urged authorities to conduct a prompt and thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that stringent and exemplary punishment is meted out to the culprits.
Additionally, the Council called on all Nagas to remain vigilant and steadfast against the sinister designs and evil forces of adversaries who continuously attempt to divide and sabotage the unity and aspirations of the Naga people. “One should not labour in the behest of the adversary to suit their evil policy. May good sense and peace prevail,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, the Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL), an apex body of the Tangkhul community, denounced the heinous act, stating that such criminal elements have no place in society. They demanded that the culprits surrender before being apprehended.
The TNL also urged the state authorities to expedite the investigation and take necessary action against the perpetrators.
Various other civil society organizations (CSOs), including the Tangkhul Shanao Long, Hungpung Village Authority, and Hunphun Village Authority, expressed dissatisfaction over the security lapse that allowed such a violent incident to occur near the Mini Secretariat, a high-security zone.
The incident, which took place on Saturday at around 8:40 pm, has sent shockwaves through the local populace, with many demanding swift justice.
