Imphal: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, during a one-day tour to the troubled state of Manipur on Monday, met Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan in Imphal. He briefed her about the condition of displaced people living in various relief camps across the state.
After meeting Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the relief camps, Gandhi highlighted the pain and suffering endured by those displaced for the past 14 months. He emphasised the urgent need for concrete steps to support these individuals and resolve the ongoing crisis.
“Congress is ready to support any step to bring the two communities together in the negotiating table for talks as it will be the only means to end the crisis in the State of Manipur,” said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
Gandhi was also briefed by Chief Secretary Dr Vineet Joshi and Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh on the measures taken by the state government to provide essential commodities to those in relief camps.
Accompanying Gandhi were KC Venugopal, MP and General Secretary of AICC, Girish Chodankar, AICC in-charge of Manipur, Lok Sabha MPs from Manipur Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam and Alfred Kanngam S Arthur, CLP leader and former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh, CWC Member Gaikhangam, President MPCC K Meghachandra, and Congress MLAs K Ranjit, Th Lokeshwar, and Surjakumar Okram.

Governor Uikey welcomed Gandhi and emphasised the importance of political leaders from all parties cooperating to resolve the crisis.
“Trust deficit among the two communities have to be removed so that a conducive atmosphere for talks can be created,” she said.
Uikey also appealed to all stakeholders to support the government’s efforts to resolve the crisis.
