Imphal: Two members of Arambai Tenggol were arrested on Sunday for allegedly abducting and assaulting four Manipur police personnel posted at Kangpokpi police station.
The four police personnel belonging to Nepali and Muslim communities were abducted and brutally assaulted by armed miscreants at Koirengei in Imphal East when they were returning to Kangpokpi on May 11.
In a statement issued by Manipur police, two miscreants belonging to Arambai Tenggol who were involved in the abduction and physical assault of four police personnel on Saturday were arrested.
The arrested miscreants have been identified as Taibanganba Sanoujam, 25, from Heingang and Moirangthem Bono, 40, a former resident of Thengra Leirak, Churachandpur.
Following the incident, a zero FIR was filed at Kangpokpi police station and later transferred to the police station concerned for further investigation.
In the wake of the abduction and assault on Kangpokpi police personnel, the Committee on Tribal Unity (COTU) imposed a 24-hour total shutdown in the entire Kangpokpi district from Saturday midnight till Sunday midnight to show resentment against the brutal assault on the police personnel.
All vehicle movement along National Highway 2 was restricted in Kangpokpi district and shops were closed, causing severe inconveniences to normal life.
Denouncing the incident, KSO-Sadar Hills stated that the sham authority of the state and the collapse of all four pillars of the state government have been seen since the violence erupted on May 3, 2023.
