Aizawl: The image of a mutilated body, purportedly belonging to a Kuki youth, went viral across social media platforms after two were killed in a fresh wake of violence in Manipur. The incident, occurring on the border of Imphal East district and Kangpokpi district left two individuals dead on Saturday morning.
Identified as Kamminlal Lupheng (23) and Kamlengsat Lunkim (22), both residents of Kangpokpi, the victims were allegedly subjected to heinous acts of violence. A Kuki Student Organization official, speaking to eastMojo, confirmed the authenticity of an image depicting a mutilated body with a severed head and hands.
According to reports from Indian Express, a senior police officer acknowledged gunfire in the area, suggesting the likelihood of fatalities, although the bodies remain unaccounted for at present.
The incident has prompted outrage from Kuki-Zomi organizations, with the Kuki Inpi Manipur issuing a strongly worded statement condemning what they describe as Meitei atrocities. They lamented the appalling treatment of the victims’ lifeless bodies, citing acts of brutality, barbarism, and an utter disregard for human dignity. The organisation further alleged state government complicity in financing, arming, and shielding Meitei militias, calling for immediate intervention to curb such violence.
Echoing these sentiments, the Kuki Women Organization for Human Rights (KWOHR) denounced the violation of human rights and called for widespread condemnation of the inhumane acts perpetrated against Kuki-Zo volunteers.
