Imphal: The state government set up a seven-member expert committee in an attempt to understand the COVID-19 mortality rate amid the second wave triggered in Manipur.
Headed by health director Dr K Rajo Singh, the expert committee will examine the recent COVID-19 mortality cases in the state.
Other members include Dr A Santa Singh, director, RIMS, Dr Kh Lokeshwar Singh, medical superintendent, JNIMS, Dr Th Dhabali, managing director, Babina Diagnostics, Dr S Jugindro, president, All Medical Association (IMA), Manipur state branch, Dr L Ashananda Singh, regional director, MoHFW, and Dr Lalthari Hmar, additional director of health services (MC).
The expert committee shall look into the recent COVID-19 mortality cases to identify causes and suggest remedial as well as preventive steps that may be taken at hospitals, COVID-19 care centres, and during home isolation.
The state has witnessed a surge in COVID-19 cases and deaths in the second wave, causing fear and anxiety among the public. The healthcare sector has been battling hard and most hospitals, especially in the Imphal area, are reportedly packed with COVID-19 patients and unable to provide beds.
On Tuesday, the state registered 624 fresh cases and 20 deaths due to COVID-19. The total confirmed cases to date are 40,683 with 6,605 as active cases.
Moreover, altogether 612 persons had succumbed to the virus in the state.
