Imphal: Former police officer Thounaojam Brinda formally joined the Indian National Congress (INC) along with ten other leaders in Imphal on Sunday, marking a significant political development for the Opposition party in Manipur.

The induction programme for the new entrants was organised by the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) at Congress Bhavan in Imphal.

The other 10 leaders who joined the Congress include former bureaucrats, advocates, educators and prominent political figures from various constituencies, including Keirao, Lilong, Sekmai, Thongju, Thangmeiband and Yaiskul. Former Sekmai MLA Kh Devendro Singh was among those inducted.

Speaking at the induction programme, Brinda said she joined the Congress because she believes it is the only political party capable of defeating the BJP in Manipur. She alleged that the ongoing conflict in the state reflects the BJP government’s failure and expressed optimism that a Congress government would be able to rebuild Manipur and restore lasting peace.

The programme was attended by MPCC president Okram Ibobi Singh, Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Gaikhangam, MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, MLAs Ranjit Singh, Th. Lokeshwar Singh and Okram Surjakumar, along with several other senior Congress leaders.
