The 6th HNDB Memorial Lecture 2026 on the theme “Harinayaran Duttabaruah and the Emergence of Modernism in Assamese Literature” was held with great academic distinction and cultural richness on 28th March 2026, organised by HNDB Central Library, Assam down town University.
The program was graced by Chief Guest Shri Rahul Chandra Das, ACS, Director, Cultural Affairs, Assam; Speaker Dr. Ananda Bormudoi, eminent educationist and critic; Guests of Honour, renowned folk performing artist of Oja Pali, Padma Shri Drona Bhuyan and Prabhat Haloi; and Padma Bhushan Jatin Goswami, legendary Sattriya classical dancer, whose esteemed presence added immense prestige to the occasion.
The program commenced with an invocation followed by the University Anthem, setting a solemn and dignified tone. Dr. Rubi Goswami, Librarian, HNDB Central Library, presented an overview of the event, highlighting the significance of the HNDB Memorial Lecture series in fostering intellectual engagement and preserving literary and cultural heritage. A soulful Borgeet performance enriched the ambience, after which the distinguished guests were formally welcomed to the dais and participated in the ceremonial lighting of the lamp.
The Vice-Chancellor Prof. N.C. Talukdar delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the relevance of such academic platforms in promoting scholarly dialogue. The dignitaries were felicitated in recognition of their invaluable contributions to society and culture. The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Ananda Bormudoi, who offered deep insights into the theme, reflecting on the evolution of modernism in Assamese literature through the contributions of Harinayaran Duttabaruah.
The program also featured the inauguration of a special archive by Padma Bhushan Jatin Goswami through a video presentation, marking a significant milestone for the HNDB Central Library.
A book titled “Harinayan: The Renaissance Man” was also formally inaugurated during the event, further enhancing its academic and cultural significance.
The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks, followed by the State Anthem and a group photograph. A luncheon was hosted thereafter for all attendees.
The 6th HNDB Memorial Lecture 2026 stood as a remarkable confluence of scholarship, literature, and cultural heritage, reaffirming AdtU’s commitment to academic excellence and the promotion of Assamese literary traditions.
