Dibrugarh: An insurgent of NSCN (Akato) surrendered before security forces in Khonsa town in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district on Sunday.

The surrendered insurgent has been identified as SS Sergeant Inno Mosha Pangsa (Chang), aged 23 years, belonging to the NSCN (Akato) faction and a resident of Tuensang district, Nagaland.

“Based on credible intelligence inputs regarding the presence of a hardcore insurgent in the general area of Khonsa town, a focused operation was initiated by Khonsa Battalion. Upon reaching the suspected location, own sources were activated and tasked to establish contact with the insurgent and persuade him to surrender,” said an official.

He said, “Sustained pressure and relentless negotiations motivated the insurgent to shun the path of violence and return to the mainstream. The efforts yielded a positive response, and the insurgent agreed to surrender.”

The insurgent was subsequently taken into custody at Battalion Headquarters, Khonsa.

He had joined the organisation on April 19, 2022.

“During the surrender, the insurgent handed over one .32 calibre pistol, four rounds of ammunition, one walkie-talkie radio set with charger, and one appointment letter, which were recovered from his possession,” said an official.

The individual was handed over to Khonsa Police Station for further investigation.
