AdtU hosts international conference on science and sustainability

Assam down town University (AdtU) hosted the inaugural ceremony of the International Conference on Science, Technology, Innovation and Policy for Global Health and Sustainability (ICSTIP-2025) on Monday. The event, organised by the university’s Faculty of Science, aims to promote collaboration and research in sustainable development and global health.

The ceremony began with a lamp-lighting session and Saraswati Vandana performed by Dr Radali Duarah, followed by a welcome address from Dr Manash Pratim Sarma, President of ICSTIP-2025. He outlined the goals of the conference and underlined the need for interdisciplinary cooperation in meeting development challenges.

AdtU Vice-Chancellor Prof N.C. Talukdar delivered the inaugural address, reaffirming the university’s focus on fostering research and innovation. Former Assam Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Prof (Dr) Kamal Malla Bujarbaruah attended as chief guest and spoke on the importance of collaborative research in advancing sustainable growth, particularly in the Northeast.

Dr Suraksha S. Diwan, Scientist-F at the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, delivered the keynote address on “Harnessing Biotechnology for Sustainable Development in the North Eastern Region — India’s Emerging Growth Engine.” She highlighted biotechnology’s role in supporting livelihoods, economic progress and environmental balance.

International participants, including Mr Marek Zborowski from the University of Applied Sciences in Poland and Prof Vera Ferro Lebres from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança, Portugal, shared perspectives on global innovation and research cooperation.

The Souvenir and Abstract Book of ICSTIP-2025 was also released at the event, featuring research papers and ideas from participants. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr Partha Pratim Kalita, Convenor of ICSTIP-2025.
