The All Sikkimese Bhutia Association (ASBA) conducted a full-day event on 6 August 2025 at Makhim, Gangtok, under the guidance of its Chief Advisor and Minister Ven Sonam Lama. The event was also attended by Minister T.T. Bhutia and MLA Rikshal N. Bhutia, who serve as Advisors to ASBA.
The morning session began at 10 AM and included an orientation and workshop with coordinators from all 31 Assembly Constituencies. The session concluded at 1:30 PM. In the afternoon, starting from 2:30 PM, the association held a felicitation ceremony for members of the Bhutia community who have recently been appointed to various government roles.
Those recognised included Advisors, Chairpersons, Additional Political Secretaries (APS), Officers on Special Duty (OSDs), as well as the Adhakshya, Deputy Mayor, and Upa-Adhakshya. ASBA also acknowledged a team of architects led by Gary, Sonam, Dorjee, and Pema, who have been tasked with preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the proposed “Bhutia Makhim” to be constructed in central Gangtok.
During his address, Ven Sonam Lama congratulated all appointees and expressed appreciation to Chief Minister P. S. Tamang for allocating a plot of land for the community project. He encouraged those present to work towards the welfare of the community and the broader goal of inclusive development in Sikkim.
ASBA President C. L. Denzongpa also extended his thanks to the Chief Minister for the land allotment. He called for a collective and positive approach to community welfare and assured that the new Executive Body would focus on addressing key concerns.
The event was also attended by several senior figures including former Chief Secretary Sonam Wangdi, Secretary Karma R. Bonpo (IAS), Secretary Tsewang Gyachho (IAS), Secretary Tashi Cho Cho (IAS), other former secretaries, senior citizens, and members of ASBA.
