Mmhonlümo Kikon, BJP National Spokesperson and former MLA from the 40 Bhandari Constituency in Nagaland, has formally resigned from the primary and active membership of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and all party posts.
In a resignation letter addressed to the President of the BJP Nagaland State Unit, Kikon expressed gratitude for the opportunities and responsibilities entrusted to him during his more than ten-year association with the party. He cited a desire to “recalibrate his journey” and “explore new avenues of public engagement and policy work” as reasons behind his decision.
“My decision is guided by the need to continue contributing to society in different ways,” he wrote in the letter.
Kikon has held several prominent roles within the BJP, including National Spokesperson and Prabhari (in-charge) of Mizoram State. He was also the State Election Officer for BJP Nagaland and served as the Chief Whip of the BJP Legislature Party in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. His political career includes two consecutive victories from the 40 Bhandari Constituency in 2013 and 2018 — a first in the constituency’s history since statehood.
A former Cabinet Minister, Kikon also served as Advisor to the Government of Nagaland for departments such as Information Technology, Science & Technology, and New & Renewable Energy. He was known for his active role in youth, skill development, and IT-related initiatives in the state. In 2020, he was named among the Top 50 MLAs in India in a survey by Fame India magazine.
Beyond politics, Kikon is a published poet, with two books to his name, and an ASPEN Fellow. He holds a Master’s degree in English Literature from Delhi University and was previously a social worker.
