Imphal: The iconic Durand Cup, India’s oldest and most revered football tournament, is set to make a thrilling return to Imphal, as the 134th edition’s Imphal leg kicks off at the historic Khuman Lampak Main Stadium. Organised by the Indian Army in close collaboration with the Government of Manipur, the tournament promises high-octane action and is expected to capture the imagination of football fans across the region.
Following last year’s devastating floods in Imphal, the Khuman Lampak Stadium has been comprehensively restored to its former glory through the determined efforts of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Every aspect of preparation – from meticulous pitch maintenance to logistical planning – has been executed with care to ensure a seamless playing and viewing experience for all.
This edition will feature four prominent teams – TRAU FC, NEROCA FC, the Indian Navy Football Team, and Real Kashmir FC – competing for supremacy. The action-packed fixtures begin on 30 July, with local rivals TRAU FC and NEROCA FC facing off in the curtain raiser.
The tournament continues with the Indian Navy Football Team taking on Real Kashmir FC on 1 August, followed by TRAU FC vs Real Kashmir FC on 4 August and NEROCA FC vs the Indian Navy Football Team on 7 August. The penultimate clash will feature NEROCA FC against Real Kashmir FC on 10 August, with the group stage concluding as TRAU FC take on the Indian Navy Football Team on 12 August.
This year, the stakes are higher than ever, with both the championship title and individual brilliance being richly rewarded. The top three individual performers – winners of the Golden Boot (top scorer), Golden Glove (best goalkeeper), and Golden Ball (best player) – will each be awarded a brand-new SUV in recognition of their outstanding performances.
Manipur’s passionate football community has already shown strong support during the trophy tour and public display held on 10 July. Building on the electrifying atmosphere and success of the 2022 edition, Khuman Lampak Main Stadium is once again expected to become a cauldron of energy, unity, and celebration. Fans from across Manipur and beyond are ready to fill the stands, cheer on their teams, and honour the enduring spirit of Indian football.
