Guwahati: In a significant move to strengthen international academic and research collaborations, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Southern Denmark (SDU). The partnership aims to bolster the academia–industry–government ecosystem by fostering joint research, academic exchange, and sustainable technology development.
The MoU was formalised in the presence of Mr. Jørgen Mads Clausen, Chairman of Danfoss and Honorary Consul for the Kingdom of Denmark in the Emirates. His presence underscored the importance of global partnerships in advancing scalable innovation and nurturing future-ready talent. Mr. Clausen highlighted that such international collaborations are critical to unlocking technological breakthroughs and addressing global challenges.
Signed by Prof. Devendra Jalihal, Director of IIT Guwahati, and Prof. Henrik Bindslev, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at SDU, the agreement lays the groundwork for the establishment of a Center of Excellence for Indo-Danish innovation and translational research at IIT Guwahati.
The partnership will also introduce joint Master’s and Ph.D. programs featuring co-supervision and mutual credit recognition, alongside faculty and student exchange initiatives that encourage academic mobility and cross-cultural understanding.
The collaboration will focus on areas such as sustainable technologies, energy efficiency, and climate innovation, aligning with the global sustainability goals shared by both nations.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Jalihal said, “This collaboration reinforces our vision to position IIT Guwahati as a global hub for technology, research, and academic excellence. Together with SDU and through industry engagement, we aim to develop sustainable solutions addressing pressing global challenges.”
A Joint Steering Committee, comprising academic and industry representatives from both institutions, will oversee the implementation of the collaboration. It will also work to attract industry participation and financial support to expand the scope and impact of the initiatives under the MoU.
