Assam’s Chief Secretary recently held a meeting with Sohel Kazani, Managing Director of Bharat Freight Group, and Yashas Karanam, Director and COO of Bellatrix Aerospace Pvt. Ltd., to discuss the possible establishment of an aerospace manufacturing facility in the state.
The proposed project involves setting up an Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) unit for satellite subsystems, propulsion systems, payloads, and related components. According to initial plans, the facility would include an electronics laboratory, an environmental test lab, clean rooms, humidity-controlled storage, satellite assembly fixtures, common-use areas, and a tool room.
The discussions also considered forming a joint venture through a public-private partnership (PPP) model to support Assam’s entry into the aerospace and defence manufacturing sector. As part of the proposal, Bellatrix Aerospace has indicated a Phase 1 investment of Rs 50 crore.
The meeting follows an earlier session held in February titled ‘The Skies of Tomorrow: Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing in Assam’, which brought together policymakers, industry representatives, and experts. G. Satheesh Reddy, president of the Aeronautical Society of India and former chairman of DRDO, moderated the panel and outlined the state’s potential for aerospace development, underlining the importance of innovation and collaborative models.
