The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati is set to host the 10th edition of the India International Science Festival (IISF) from November 30 to December 3, 2024. With the theme “Transforming India into an S&T-driven Global Manufacturing Hub,” the festival highlights the intersection of science, technology, and industrial growth, aiming to position India as a global leader in manufacturing.
This year’s festival, the first to be held in Northeast India, is being organised under the guidance of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), with its constituent laboratory, the National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (CSIR-NIIST), coordinating the event. IISF, launched in 2015 at IIT Delhi, has grown into the nation’s largest science festival, drawing thousands of participants annually to foster innovation, inspire young minds, and drive scientific collaborations.
IISF embraces a philosophy of inclusivity, celebrating science not only among scientists but also engaging the general public in a vibrant and accessible manner. From interactive exhibitions to cultural celebrations, it offers a diverse platform for showcasing India’s achievements in science and technology.
This year’s IISF features an array of thematic events designed to cater to students, researchers, educators, and the general public. Key attractions include:
- “Chandrayaan – The Museum of the Moon”: An artistic representation of the lunar surface by British artist Dr Luke Jerram, celebrating India’s Chandrayaan mission success.
- Mega Science and Technology Exhibition: A display of India’s advancements in STEM fields, showcasing innovations from leading scientific institutions.
- Make in India, Make for the World: A forum to attract global partnerships in manufacturing, technology, and logistics.
- Pragya Bharat: Discussions on cutting-edge technologies such as AI, quantum computing, and biotechnology to propel India towards its Viksit Bharat vision by 2047.
- Nari Shakti – Women in S&T: Focused on empowering women in science and entrepreneurship through discussions and government initiatives.
- Student-Scientist Interaction: Opportunities for students to engage directly with experts in various scientific disciplines.
The festival will also spotlight Northeast India’s rich cultural heritage through the North East Symphony and Taste of the Hills – North East Food Street, offering attendees a chance to experience traditional music, dance, and cuisine.
