Imphal: After a two-week closure, the Manipur government has announced the resumption of regular classes in all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, starting Friday. The decision was confirmed by an official notification.
Director of Education (Schools) L. Nandakumar Singh issued a notification stating that the reopening of schools and other educational institutions was decided after consultations with the Home Department. The notification also instructed all Zonal Education Officers under the Education (Schools) Department, Manipur, to inform stakeholders within their jurisdiction and take necessary actions to ensure a smooth reopening.
Similarly, Joint Secretary (Higher and Technical Education) Daryal Anal issued a notification for higher education institutions. The directive mandates that all government educational institutions, government-aided colleges, and state universities under the Higher and Technical Education Department resume classes from November 29.
The Manipur government had ordered the closure of educational institutions across six districts—Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching, and Jiribam—on November 16. The closure followed the recovery of the bodies of six missing persons, including three children, in Jiribam district, which led to unrest.
Meanwhile, the state government has extended the suspension of internet services for two more days, until 5:15 PM on November 29, as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of misinformation. The suspension is enforced in nine districts, encompassing both valley and hill areas, namely Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Jiribam, and Pherzawl.
The reopening of educational institutions marks a step toward restoring normalcy in the state amid ongoing precautionary measures to maintain law and order.
