The Assam AVGC-XR Development Association (AADA) has announced ‘IGNITE 2026’, a one-day industry interaction and film showcase centred on the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics and Extended Reality (AVGC-XR) sector. The event will be held on May 15, 2026, at Gauhati University.
Organised in collaboration with Software Technology Parks of India and the Media & Entertainment Skills Council, the initiative aims to support the growth of the AVGC-XR ecosystem in Northeast India.
According to the organisers, the event is intended to connect academic learning with industry practices through a series of discussions, workshops and showcases.
The programme will begin at 10 am with an inaugural address by Prof. Shikhar Kr. Sarma, Professor and Head of the Department of Information Technology at Gauhati University. The opening session will also include a poster showcase by industry professionals and AADA members, along with a student showreel presentation.
At 11 am, Ashwani Kumar, IAS, Director of DITEC, Government of Assam, will deliver the inaugural speech as the chief guest. The session will also feature an AADA Orange Economy video presentation and a note on the AVGC-XR sector by Madhurjya Prakash Baruah, Scientist F and Additional Director at STPI.
The event will continue with film screenings and technical workshops from 11:30 am onwards. The schedule includes a screening of “Chyimi”, an animated short film by Dr Parthasarathi Mahanta, IPS, Police Commissioner of Assam.
Lumapix Creative Studios will conduct a live breakdown session on the “Kamroop” teaser, focusing on the production process from concept to execution. Once Fly Rock Studios will also host a workshop on indie game development, discussing challenges, opportunities and the use of local narratives in gaming.
A panel discussion on building the Northeast creative economy is scheduled for 2 pm and will be moderated by Rajib Phukan, General Secretary of AADA. The panel will include filmmaker Deep Choudhury, Associate Art Director Priyam Chakraborty and Assistant Professor Dhrubajyoti Singh Choudhary.
Following the discussion, Rhino Motion Pvt. Ltd will present “Frames of the Future”, a cinematic presentation tracing the development of the AVGC industry from Assam to the national level.
The organisers will also distribute certificates to the top five students from the Information Technology department at Gauhati University in recognition of their academic performance.
AADA stated that educational institutions have been invited to nominate up to five students from courses related to animation, VFX and game design to attend the event.
The association also said that the event is being supported by regional studios and educational institutions, with Eastmojo serving as the official media partner.
