Azara: Harendra Kumar, a seasoned engineer renowned for his work in remote regions, has assumed the role of Additional Director General (ADG) Eastern Zone of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) under the Ministry of Defence.
Prior to this, Kumar served as the ADG in the West Zone, based in Chandigarh.
Following the retirement of Praveen Kumar Hanuman Singh, the former ADG of the Eastern Zone, on July 31, the Defence Ministry initially appointed Ajay Kumar Mishra, Chief Engineer of the Brahmank Project in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, as the interim ADG for the Eastern Zone. However, Harendra Kumar, a 1990 batch Border Road Engineering Service (BRES) officer, was ultimately selected for the position based on his extensive experience and expertise.

With a career spanning over 34 years, Kumar has been instrumental in the construction of roads, bridges, and tunnels in challenging terrains along the Indo-Tibetan border, including regions in Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Arunachal Pradesh. His contributions have earned him prestigious honors, including the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM) and the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM).
After officially taking charge, Kumar held a meeting with engineers and officers at the Eastern Zone Headquarters in Lankeswar, Guwahati. During the meeting, he reviewed ongoing projects and emphasized the importance of completing all construction work within the stipulated time frame.
