More than 390,000 people in Assam are still suffering from the effects of flooding, as the overall situation remains severe, officials reported on Saturday.
Despite a slight improvement in the flood situation due to receding rainfall in some parts of the state, 19 districts remain affected, they said.
The death toll from this year’s floods, landslides, and storms has reached 37, with one person reported missing, according to officials.
As of Friday evening, 390,491 people were affected across the districts of Kamrup, Tamulpur, Hailakandi, Udalguri, Hojai, Dhubri, Barpeta, Biswanath, Nalbari, Bongaigaon, Baksa, Karimganj, South Salmara, Goalpara, Darrang, Bajali, Nagaon, Cachar, and Kamrup Metropolitan.
Although the number of affected people had decreased slightly from 409,000 on Thursday, the number of flood-hit districts remained unchanged.
Karimganj is the worst-affected district, with over 240,000 people impacted.

Major rivers, including the Kopili at Kampur and Dharamtul, the Barak at BP Ghat, and the Kushiyara in Karimganj, were reported to be flowing above the danger level as of Friday evening.
More than 100 relief camps, providing shelter to over 15,000 people, have been established. An additional 125 relief distribution centres are also operational.
Officials added that houses, cattle sheds, roads, bridges, embankments, and other infrastructure have been affected or damaged in various districts.
