Tinsukia: Moments before an election event led by BJP’s star campaigner for Assam, Manoj Tiwari, a pall of gloom descended as news emerged of the death of a supporter of the saffron party.
The deceased has been identified as Barik Ahmed, district vice-president of the minority cell of BJP.
The venue, a marriage hall, was filled with a jubilant crowd of over five hundred BJP supporters. However, tragedy struck before the arrival of Tiwari when Ahmed fell unconscious while dancing.
He was rushed to Civil Hospital where he was declared dead.
The campaign for BJP candidate Sarbananda Sonowal at Manav Kalyan Road in Tinsukia then began with a two-minute silence. Following this, Bhojpuri singer Tiwari swiftly transitioned into election mode, energising the crowd with his rendition of the popular Bhojpuri song “Rinkiya Ke Papa”.
Addressing the gathering, BJP star campaigner Tiwari said, “There seems to be no contest this time as Modi is all set for the third innings as prime minister with an astounding 400+ seats. It won’t be a surprise if we cross 425 seats”.
In Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, there is no contest with Sarbananda. He is everywhere,” the BJP leader added.
Despite being a candidate himself, Tiwari said that he arrived to Assam seek votes for Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “The country has never seen the kind of development under Modi even in sixty years of Congress rule. Now, we are planning for 2047,” Tiwari said.
Tiwari was accompanied by the minister for labour and employment and Tinsukia MLA Sanjoy Kishan, Tinsukia Municipal Board chairman Pabitro Gogoi, BJP district leaders Shewjee Dubey, Sanjay Singh among others.

Earlier, Tiwari held a roadshow at Doomdooma – a tea belt with a sizeable Hindi-speaking population – in the Tinsukia district, and a road show was scheduled in Dibrugarh.
On Tuesday, Union Minister Amit Shah, accompanied by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswas Sarma, took out a road show in Tinsukia hours after a road show was taken out by Aam Aadmi Party under the leadership of Atishi Marlena.
