Guwahati: The Dibrugarh Municipal Board has been officially upgraded to a full-fledged Municipal Corporation. Urban Development Minister of Assam Ashok Singhal made the formal announcement of the much-awaited upgrade.
Minister Singhal hoped that the upgrade would breathe new life into the development activities under the civic body.
Dr. Saikat Patra was named the first Mayor of the newly formed Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation, signifying a new chapter in the governance structure.
Established in 1873, the DMB holds a distinguished status as one of the oldest municipalities in Northeast India, embodying decades of civic service and community engagement.
“From today, the Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) has been dissolved and upgraded to the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation (DMC),” the minister said.
He added, “Within 3-4 days, the official notification will be released. The DMB, with its rich heritage, now transitions into a Municipal Corporation, heralding a new era of development for Dibrugarh.”
The upgrade of the Dibrugarh Municipal Board to Corporation status marks a pivotal moment in the region’s urban governance, promising enhanced services and infrastructure for the residents of Dibrugarh.
