Guwahati: In a tragic incident of man-elephant conflict, a man was fatally trampled by a wild elephant on the Indo-Bhutan border in Bijni, Chirang district of Assam, on March 2.
The unfortunate event occurred at Notun Maati number 12 on the Indo-Bhutan border in Bijni. The victim, identified as Durjo Narzary (46), hailed from Sonapur on Notun Mati No. 10.
According to reports, Durjo Narzary had ventured out to inspect his mill garden on Saturday night when he encountered the wild elephant. In a sudden attack, the elephant fatally injured Durjo Narzary on the spot.
Upon receiving information, the forest department promptly reached the scene, recovered the body, and subsequently sent it for postmortem examination.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges posed by human-wildlife conflicts in the region.
