Three workers injured in clash at NIT Silchar hostel, Institute initiates investigation

Silchar: A reported scuffle between mess workers and hostel boarders at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar in Assam’s Cachar district resulted in injuries to at least three mess workers on Friday night, as per a report by The Assam Tribune. The incident unfolded at Hostel 7 of the institute, where a heated argument over food escalated into a physical confrontation.

Sources indicate that the altercation erupted when mess workers engaged in a dispute with some students over meal-related issues. The disagreement escalated into a scuffle, leading to injuries sustained by the mess workers involved.

Prompt medical attention was administered, and the injured workers were rushed to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) for treatment.

Upon learning of the incident on Saturday, Dr. Ashim Roy, the registrar of NIT Silchar, stated that immediate action was taken. The Dean Students Welfare has formed a four-member committee to investigate the reported incident thoroughly.

The committee will delve into the circumstances surrounding the altercation, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of the events that transpired on Friday night.
