Agartala: In a shocking incident, two minor girls allegedly suffered sexual harassment at the hands of their neighbour in the Khowai district of Tripura. A specific case was lodged with the Teliamura police station soon after the matter was brought to the notice of the parents.

According to available information, both minors used to stay at home alone throughout the day as their parents had to venture out for work in the morning.

On the day of the incident, both girls went to the house of their neighbour. The accused identified as Sagar Marak took advantage and assaulted them sexually.

Later in the evening, when the parents returned home, they came to know about all of this from the victims. Wasting no time, they lodged a police complaint with the Teliamura police station.

A case was registered under Indian Penal Code sections 354, 506 and section eight of the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences Act. The accused is stated to be 18 years old.

Speaking on the Tripura minors’ assault, sources in the police department said, “Medical examinations of both the girls are conducted in the local hospital. An investigation into the matter is underway.”

Locals alleged that efforts are afoot to subvert the police investigation by a vested interest quarter.
